THE BESTIARY
SPECIES FAR AND WIDE
This is the list of the species that we offer, however, there are potentially more that are listed throughout Mythology that are welcome here! If you have a creature that you would like to play here, we ask that you message a member of staff with your idea as well as a link to a description of said species!
The Amazons are a group of female warriors that came about thousands of years ago when a Ares had an affair with Harmonia. Though they were founded by a demigod, child of Ares, many of the Amazons have lost their touch with demigods abilities. The Amazons are much like the Huntresses of Artemis, the only notable difference is they are allowed relationships with men and may have children. While these tribes are filled with warriors, they are not immortal beings, but even with the Titans ruling the the Gods gone, they continue to thrive, helping protect mythical creatures from the Titans wrath.
At the beginning, there was nothing but void. And out of such void, came the mother, Gaia, known as a Titan and the Mother of Earth. She was the one who gave birth to the sky; Uranus, a Titan and Father of the Sky, and Sky itself, who became Uranus’s lover. From those two, life sprung free and was created upon Earth. Animals, plants, water, and another life was created by the Sky lovers in unison. At the same time, Gaia became pregnant with the remaining Titans. But right before their birth, Uranus demanded them not to be born. Angered, Gaia gave birth to Cronus, first of the Titan children, anyways and had him castrate Uranus in his sleep. Afterward, the remaining Titans were born.
Cronus and a fellow Titan of Fertility, Rhea, married and she became pregnant as well. Like Uranus, Cronus didn’t want his children to be born, so he ate them whole. But one remained. Zeus, Father of the Olympians, was born in secrecy and found a way to release his siblings from his father’s stomach. Ever since, there has been a battle between the Titans and the Olympians, both wishing to rule over Olympus and Earth on their own.
Each Titan and Deity has their own strengths and weaknesses, as well as their own punishments within this world. However, all the Gods (minor and Olympian) that sided with the Olympians, lost their powers to Pandora's Box back in the 9th century. All Deities and Titans are immortal beings, an it is extremely difficult to kill one.
For centuries, the Olympians and many other minor Gods have been known to have affairs with mortal women and men. And through these unions, half-mortal and half-god creatures have been created. Due to being human, they have many of the strengths and weaknesses of mortals, but they have one plus - they have the blood of the Gods running through the veins. Skilled with the talents, and sometimes the powers, of their Godly Parent, they are seen as a threat to some of the Titans. Demigods born before the God's lost their powers are still blessed with their abilities, though, they aren't able as powerful as they once were. Any demigod born while the Gods are "mortal" will not be gifted with their abilities, besides that of immortality, and will receive that blessing when Pandora's Box is opened.
Another type of Demigod are the Huntresses of Artemis, fair maidens that pledged themselves to Artemis and to their virginity. They still roam the world with their familiars. They were women, likely humans or demigods, that Artemis noticed a real act of courage or bravery in and thus offered them immortality. Even to this day, this group of maidens continue their hunt in protecting other mythical species that the Titans have gone after, much like the Amazon's have. There are only a select few that know where Artemis is, protecting her from the sidelines without giving her new appearance away.
While Echidnas and Gorgons are very much the same creatures, there is one major difference between the two. Echidnas are always male, and Gorgons are always female. There are a few differences between the two of them while Gorgon's are more slender and have snakes instead of hair, Echidna's are far more bulky, and are mainly the tail of a snake, and the torso of a man. Both Echidna's and Gorgon's have the ability to turn others to stone when they look upon their eyes and have a paralyzing effect through touch. To mortals the Gorgon's and Echidna's appear like normal people, however to other creatures or monsters, they cannot hide their true form. These creatures, like so many before them, are immortal and usually mate with mortals though there have been some cases where the two have come together and mated with each other.
The Fae are magical beings that live in a realm parallel to the mortal realm and are only known to be stumbled upon by a veil of thin magic that can be crossed through portals in the 'in between places' or 'Tween places', such as doorways and shadows. They are known to be the categorisation of fairies, elves, trolls, and brownies. Fairies are good beings in nature, as they are kind-hearted to children, whom they often befriend. However, they are also quite mischievous and like to tease adults by stealing and hiding their belongings. Fairies create a magical dust known as fairy dust, through which they, and others in control of the dust, can achieve various magical things. Elves and Trolls are in the sense brethren though elves are the most good-natured against their troll counterparts. Elves are usually seen as females but there have been moments where males have appeared in contrast to trolls who are known mostly as male. Brownies are in a sense a good-natured Troll, they were given this name when some of them turned against the Titans and sided with the mortals in the war.
All children can see the fae until a certain age when they lose their innocence, and like children, there are many supernaturals that can see them as well, however, they must be pure of heart and not mean ill-will to the creatures. However, due to their kind nature and their presence in certain powerful and dark portions, they are almost extinct if not fully.
The Harpies are a species completely dominated by females. They appear as any normal human woman, except they have the ability to sprout wings from their backs, a painful process but one that allows them flight. They achieve talons on each hand and foot in the process of sprouting wings. Harpies are able to detect when someone has less than savory intentions, being that they used to take evil-doers to the underworld. Harpies are known to be immortal, but there are recent cases where they have been known to take on mortal lives due to Hades' loss of power.
Hellhounds are massive, dog-like monsters from the Underworld with the ability to transform between both that of a dog and of a mortal. They are usually seen as males when they transform, like Cerberus's male mortal form, but there have been times when hellhounds transform into a female mortal. Hellhounds, however, are known to be bound to a master and their master was both Persephone and Hades, however, after they lost their powers and went into hiding - many hellhounds wander around with no master, some even following Cronus. Hellhounds are very large, tall, and have the ability to travel through shadows. It takes a lot of energy for hellhounds to shadow travel, especially when they shadow travel with a human being, but after a few tries, it is possible. If the hellhound is bound to the person they shadow travel with, it is much easier and simple process, but if they travel with someone else it is a brutal process. Hellhounds are known to be quite feared by others unless a God or a being that is friendly towards the creature.
The Merpeople are a species of mostly friendly creatures that are residents of Atlantis under the rule of Poseidon, they are known to either be female or male. A mermaid is an immortal creature of the sea. They can spend eternity at sea because they are cold blooded beings, there are some myths that they are cold-hearted creatures and that their hearts warm when they become lonely while that is sometimes the case it is not true to all merpeople. However, it is said that they cannot die unless they willingly give up their immortality and are capable of giving it up and passing it on to others.
On the contrary, there are many merpeople that have taken the dark route in their immortality and thus have been known as Sirens. The sirens are a type of supernatural creature that has been found that they can take different forms to lure and compel humans to perform drastic acts. These acts are usually destructive or violent and usually result in deaths of one kind or another. Though they are able to return to the sea, their appearance is much darker, their tails spiker, and their teeth sharp. They each have their own song, one that they use to lure people to their death.
Both Merpeople and Sirens have the ability to appear in their mortal form and can only gain their tale back upon re-entering the ocean or any form of water. However, if they are splashed by a cup of water, they won't turn, they must be fully inside a body of water. While merepeople's return to their ocean form is much more pleasant and not as painful, the siren's turn is much more violent.
A Mortal is a mortal being who lives without any magical or paranormal powers. The mortal beings that populate the planet earth. Each mortal has a soul, and, upon their death, will face judgment to determine where his or her soul will go to the afterlife. Mortals and their souls are vulnerable to certain supernatural forces that could weaken, strengthen or modify them in many conceivable ways. For example, there are many different types of monsters into which a mortal can be transformed.
Nymphs are female spirits of the natural world; minor goddesses of the forests, rivers, springs, meadows, mountains, and seas. They are the crafters of nature's wild beauty, from the growing of trees, flowers, and shrubs, to the nurture of wild animals and birds, and the formation of grottos, springs, brooks, and wetlands. There are many nymphs that were also companions of the gods. There are many classifications of nymphs, dividing them among themselves, their domains, and their powers.
An oracle is a mortal gifted with the ability to give prophecies to those who ask. They are more commonly known as seers in the modern world, but in the times of old, they were called oracles. There are many different oracles throughout history, many of whom are affiliated with the God Apollo, though there is one that is affiliated with Rhea. These beings are not immortal unless gifted immortality by a God.
A reaper is a creature created by Thanatos, the first original reaper in Greek Mythology. He had originally created them to help with collecting the souls of the dead and taking them to Charon, the ferryman that takes souls to the Underworld. Thanatos, along with his reapers, are known to appear to humans in a mortal form in order to gain their trust and take them to their final resting space when the time allotted to them by the Fates had expired. Originally the reapers were just randomly created by Thanatos, but when Hades disappeared along with the rest of the gods in the form of "death", many more reapers were created to help Thanatos in his duties. Just like Hades and Thanatos, Reapers are also known to be able to bring the dead back to life, few have tried due to being scared of punishment, but there are some that will bring the dead back if the right deal is made.
A Spirit was the soul and spirit of a deceased person that could, under certain circumstances, appear as a visible manifestation to the living, and in even rarer circumstances, physically interact with the living world. Spirits do not appear any different dead than they did when they were alive. Whenever they appear to the living, they are usually seen dressed in the very same attire they were wearing at the time of their deaths. However, it's possible that spirits can somehow change their appearance and manifest different clothing. Spirits are usually known to have passed over to their final resting place, but some are known to have made deals with the Reapers that came to collect them and some have even been known to be brought back from the dead due to these deals with Reapers.
